OVERVIEW

Based in Pasadena, California, the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is a recognized center for STEM, engineering, and science research and education. It brings together some of the world’s most brilliant minds and cutting-edge technologies to tackle major cultural and foundational problems in science. Ranked no. 6 in the QS World University Rankings, it is one of a select few technology institutes in the United States that concentrate on teaching technical arts and applied sciences, and because of its intensely tough admissions process, only a small percentage of the most talented students get admitted.

Although Caltech is small, it values ambition and excellence. Faculty members and graduates of Caltech have made contributions that have garnered both domestic and global attention, including 46 Nobel Prizes. Caltech has a high research output as well as many high-quality facilities such as the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (owned by NASA), the Caltech Seismological Laboratory, and the International Observatory Network. The Einstein Papers Project, a project to conserve, translate, and publish a few papers from Albert Einstein’s estate, is located there. Additionally, it has created an energy innovation center with the goal of uncovering ground-breaking strategies for producing fuels directly from sunshine.
